The artwork of Bonnie Cunningham
The illustrations below are part of a collaborative art piece I initiated. The project goes as follows: I make an image. Then I mail that out to an artist I know. They create an image that relates in some way to what I have created. They mail it to an artist they know and the process is repeated until there are six linked pieces of art. The final artist mails the images back to me and I put on a show. There are a lot of sets being mailed out and I am excited for this project. To the bottom right is the letter that was mailed out with each set. Please read if you are curious about the exact details.
This package should not be coming to you as a surprise. It is a group project that contains original art work by each person that has received the package prior to you. If you are reading this letter it means you have been contacted prior to this moment and agreed to participate in the project.
At the time of typing this instructional letter there are sixteen sets of six 4”x4” sheets of paper. Or as they are labeled sets A-P. You can see which set you are participating in because it is written on each sheet. Next to the set letter you will also find a number. This number indicates the order that sheets go in. This ordering system is important to both the concept of the piece and for showing purposes.
When you receive the package if you are in set E and two squares are completed you would work on square E3. While working on square E3 the main rule is that it has to relate in some way to the square before it. How it relates is up to you. It could be a narrative relation, a color scheme relation, it could endeavor to evoke the same feeling, it could endeavor to evoke an opposite feeling, the relation can be as loose or close as you want to make it. The medium is also your choice, illustration, embroidery, collage, it is up to you. If you decide to not use the provided 4”x4” sheet but another 4”x4” surface that is fine, please remove the correlating sheet of paper from the package and label the surface you have decided to use with the proper number letter combination so the next artist in line knows what they are following.
If you happen to be the sixth artist you will mail the series back to Bonnie Cunningham at ------------------------ The pieces will then be put on display at a TBD location in San Francisco. Also included in this packet is a sheet of paper that has a space for artists to fill out their personal information. If for any reason an artist does not feel comfortable giving out their information on this sheet of paper they can email it to me directly at email@example.com The asked for information is for display purposes and so I can mail back any unsold artwork or money made. All work will only be sold as a group. The price will be set at $60 a set with the money to be divided evenly among the artists. If you want your artwork mailed back to you or the $10 if your piece is sold please include a self-addressed envelope with a stamp in the art package. If this envelope/stamp is not included you will not receive money or your artwork back. I know $10 isn’t a lot, but this project is more about bringing artists together and seeing where it goes. If every set of six gets completed we will have 81 participating artists at the end of this which I think is pretty exciting.
If for some reason you receive this package and you cannot participate, send it to an artist friend you know that would like to participate. These envelopes will contain original art work by others that have put their time and energy into this project. Before you mail an envelope out, please verify that the next in line would like to and will participate.
All envelopes should be postmarked back to Bonnie Cunningham by June 1st. If the set is not complete by that time, that is alright. It will be shown with however many completed panels there are.

As a reminder the package that you are currently in possession of contains original artwork, please do what you can to keep the pieces in good condition and keep the project going.
